Claude Certified Developer - Foundations (CCDV-F)¶
Anthropic's official certification for engineers who build Claude applications with the Claude API, Claude Code, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It validates that you can design, build, and debug production Claude integrations: the Messages API, streaming, tool use, prompt caching, model selection, agents and workflows, security practices, and evaluation.
This is an official Anthropic certification, released July 2026 and delivered through Pearson VUE. It targets backend engineers, full-stack developers, and AI engineers who write code against the Claude API. It assumes general programming fluency in Python or TypeScript and basic familiarity with HTTP, JSON, and async programming. There are no formal prerequisites.

Exam Domains¶
Official blueprint v1.0, effective July 2026:
| # | Domain | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Applications and Integration | 33.1% |
| 2 | Model Selection and Optimization | 16.8% |
| 3 | Agents and Workflows | 14.7% |
| 4 | Prompt and Context Engineering | 11.0% |
| 5 | Tools and MCPs | 10.6% |
| 6 | Security and Safety | 8.1% |
| 7 | Claude Code | 3.1% |
| 8 | Eval, Testing, and Debugging | 2.6% |
One domain is a third of the exam: Applications and Integration covers the Messages API, streaming, files, batching, error handling, and SDK usage. Together with Model Selection (16.8%) and Agents and Workflows (14.7%), the top three domains are almost two thirds of the questions. Claude Code and evals are small domains; know the concepts, do not over-invest.
Registration and Logistics¶
- Register through the π Anthropic Partner Academy - the certification catalog, free official prep courses, and exam registration.
- Registration requires free membership in the π Claude Partner Network - join with a company email address.
- The exam is delivered by π Pearson VUE - choose online proctored or a physical test center when scheduling.
- You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before your appointment.
- Passing earns a digital badge issued via Credly by Pearson.
Retakes¶
- 14-day wait after a failed first attempt.
- 30-day wait after a failed second attempt.
- 90-day wait after a failed third attempt.
- Maximum 4 attempts per rolling 12 months.
Renewal¶
The credential is valid for 12 months. Renew on time for free by passing a non-proctored assessment in Partner Academy. If the credential lapses, you retake the full proctored exam.
Target Audience¶
Sit this exam if you:
- Ship features that call the Messages API
- Write prompt caching, streaming, or tool-use code by hand
- Build agents or multi-step LLM workflows
- Use Claude Code or the Claude Agent SDK in your development workflow
- Connect Claude to external systems via MCP
- Maintain production retry, rate limit, and error handling logic

| fact-sheet.md | Quick-reference exam facts, API shapes, high-yield facts across all domains |
| notes/01-claude-api-fundamentals.md | Domain 1 (Applications and Integration) - auth, models, request shape |
| notes/02-messages-api-and-streaming.md | Domain 1 (Applications and Integration) - Messages API, streaming events |
| notes/03-tool-use-function-calling.md | Domain 5 (Tools and MCPs), Domain 3 (Agents and Workflows) - tool lifecycle, parallel tools |
| notes/04-prompt-caching-and-batch-api.md | Domain 2 (Model Selection and Optimization), Domain 1 - caching mechanics, batch workflow |

Study Approach¶
- Build first, read second. Every domain has a hands-on path. Write the code.
- Take the free official prep courses in Partner Academy; they signal what the exam emphasizes.
- Use the latest SDK. Old SDK versions hide modern features.
- Weight your study by the blueprint: Domain 1 is a third of the exam, Domains 7 and 8 combined are under 6%.
- Check current model IDs and pricing at docs.anthropic.com before the exam; the lineup changes over time.
The fastest way to internalize this material is to ship something real with the Claude API and feel each feature in production.
