Claude Certified Developer - Foundations (CCDV-F)

Anthropic's official certification for engineers who build Claude applications with the Claude API, Claude Code, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It validates that you can design, build, and debug production Claude integrations: the Messages API, streaming, tool use, prompt caching, model selection, agents and workflows, security practices, and evaluation.

This is an official Anthropic certification, released July 2026 and delivered through Pearson VUE. It targets backend engineers, full-stack developers, and AI engineers who write code against the Claude API. It assumes general programming fluency in Python or TypeScript and basic familiarity with HTTP, JSON, and async programming. There are no formal prerequisites.

Exam Domains

Official blueprint v1.0, effective July 2026:

# Domain Weight
1 Applications and Integration 33.1%
2 Model Selection and Optimization 16.8%
3 Agents and Workflows 14.7%
4 Prompt and Context Engineering 11.0%
5 Tools and MCPs 10.6%
6 Security and Safety 8.1%
7 Claude Code 3.1%
8 Eval, Testing, and Debugging 2.6%

One domain is a third of the exam: Applications and Integration covers the Messages API, streaming, files, batching, error handling, and SDK usage. Together with Model Selection (16.8%) and Agents and Workflows (14.7%), the top three domains are almost two thirds of the questions. Claude Code and evals are small domains; know the concepts, do not over-invest.

Registration and Logistics

  • Register through the πŸ“– Anthropic Partner Academy - the certification catalog, free official prep courses, and exam registration.
  • Registration requires free membership in the πŸ“– Claude Partner Network - join with a company email address.

Target Audience

Sit this exam if you:

  • Ship features that call the Messages API
  • Write prompt caching, streaming, or tool-use code by hand
  • Build agents or multi-step LLM workflows
  • Use Claude Code or the Claude Agent SDK in your development workflow
  • Connect Claude to external systems via MCP
  • Maintain production retry, rate limit, and error handling logic

Study Approach

  1. Build first, read second. Every domain has a hands-on path. Write the code.
  2. Take the free official prep courses in Partner Academy; they signal what the exam emphasizes.
  3. Use the latest SDK. Old SDK versions hide modern features.
  4. Weight your study by the blueprint: Domain 1 is a third of the exam, Domains 7 and 8 combined are under 6%.
  5. Check current model IDs and pricing at docs.anthropic.com before the exam; the lineup changes over time.

The fastest way to internalize this material is to ship something real with the Claude API and feel each feature in production.
