Cloud Provider Cost Management Documentation

Exam Day Tactics

Time Management

  • 50 questions in 60 minutes = ~72 seconds per question
  • Read each question carefully - look for keywords
  • Flag difficult questions and return to them
  • Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question

Question Strategy

  1. Read the full question before looking at answers
  2. Identify the phase - Is this Inform, Optimize, or Operate?
  3. Eliminate wrong answers - Usually 2 are clearly wrong
  4. Look for FinOps principles - Answers aligned with principles are usually correct
  5. Think cloud-agnostic - Avoid provider-specific thinking
  6. Choose collaboration - FinOps favors teamwork over isolated solutions

Common Pitfalls

  1. Confusing showback and chargeback - Showback is reporting only, chargeback is actual billing
  2. Thinking FinOps is only about cost cutting - It is about maximizing business value
  3. Ignoring the cultural aspect - FinOps is a practice and culture, not just tools
  4. Assuming one cloud provider - The exam is cloud-agnostic
  5. Skipping the maturity model - Know what Crawl, Walk, Run look like
  6. Overlooking the Operate phase - Governance and continuous improvement are critical
  7. Focusing on tools over process - Tools enable FinOps but are not FinOps itself
  8. Confusing rate vs usage optimization - Rate is about discounts, usage is about efficiency
  9. Ignoring organizational alignment - FinOps requires buy-in from multiple teams
  10. Not studying all personas - Know what each stakeholder role does
