Workload Identity vs service account JSON keys: Workload Identity (GKE / Anthos) eliminates JSON key storage. The PCSE answer for any GKE β GCP API question.

Cloud KMS vs HSM vs External Key Manager:
- Software keys: software-protected (FIPS 140-2 L1)
- HSM keys: hardware-protected (FIPS 140-2 L3, in Google's HSMs)

When stuck¶
- Identify the layer - identity (Cloud Identity / IAM), platform (VPCSC / firewall), data (KMS / Sensitive Data Protection), ops (SCC / Chronicle).
- Default to Google-recommended modern patterns - Workload Identity over JSON keys, IAP over VPN, CMEK over default.
- Eliminate "share JSON keys" - always wrong in PCSE.

Fail: Most failures cluster on Identity (~25%) or Platform Protection (~20%).
